Vedanta Lanjigarh augments support to local communities against COVID-19
6th April 2020- Distributes more than 10,000 masks and soaps to villagers
- Continues support to local administration in fight against the spread
Lanjigarh, Kalahandi district, Odisha: 6th April, 2020: Vedanta’s Lanjigarh alumina refinery is actively involved in mass production of masks for the community. With the support from several members of local Women Self-Help Group (SHG), under its Sakhi Project, the team is preparing masks in large scale. These masks, along with anti-bacterial soaps are being distributed among the people of the local community. A dedicated team has been deployed by the plant to spread awareness on the usage of masks and soaps among the villagers. So far, the team has distributed over 15000 masks and more than 10000 anti-bacterial soaps to the community members.
It may be mentioned that there has been a rising demand of masks in the region and Vedanta has planned to prepare and distribute around 30,000 masks and 20000 soaps amongst the villagers. This is as part of the endeavour of the unit to prevent the spread of Corona virus in the communities. Vedanta is providing essential raw materials free of cost to the SHG members to stitch the masks and buy them for mass distribution. This endeavour is also enabling a source of income for the SHG members.
The plant is also supporting the local administration in the fight against the pandemic by providing them with the masks and soaps. Recently, the third lot of masks and soaps to Mr. Jitendra Kumar Mishra, Block Development Officer, Lanjigarh. So far, 3500 masks and 3000 soapbars handed over to BDO, Lanjigarh
Mr. Rakesh Mohan, Chief Operating Officer, Vedanta Limited, Lanjigarh unit further emphasises that the team will continue to work on this endeavour to distribute masks and soaps to ensure the wellbeing of the community. “We shall also keep extending our support to the local administration in the fight against Corona,” he adds.
