Vedanta Jharsuguda hosts District Hockey Championship towards promoting local hockey talent

Jharsuguda; 17th June 2023: Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest producer of aluminium, recently hosted a two-day District Hockey Championship in collaboration with the Jharsuguda District Administration, aimed at nurturing local hockey talent. Held on the premises of its world-class township in Jharsuguda, the tournament, which included a semi-final on Day 1 and the final on Day 2, witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 153 children representing five government schools in the region. In the Junior Boys final, Jharsuguda Zone 1 overcame Kirmira Zone 2, while in the Junior Girls final, the Jharsuguda junior girls team triumphed over Kirmira’s.

As part of its commitment to developing grassroots sports and facilitating a wider range of opportunities for youths in rural areas to advance, Vedanta Jharsuguda distributed high-quality hockey kits to each of the participating children. Through this, the company aims to help them enhance their hockey skills and encourage the young players to pursue their passion for the sport. The event was graced by several esteemed guests, including Mr. Aboli Sunil Naravane, the District Collector & District Magistrate of Jharsuguda and President of Jharsuguda District Hockey Association, Mr. Lankeshwar Amat, Additional District Magistrate, Mr. Prabir Kumar Nayak Additional District Magistrate, Mr. Sumit Kumar Mishra, District Sports Officer, and senior officials of Vedanta Ltd., Jharsuguda.
