Vedanta Aluminium supports Kashipur Premier League, bolstering grassroots cricket in rural Odisha

Rayagada, Odisha, 13th April 2024: Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest producer of aluminium, supported the latest edition of the Kashipur Premier League (KPL), a popular cricket tournament organized annually by local community members in Kashipur, Odisha. This was the latest in the company’s efforts to help nurture sporting talent in the region, towards creating avenues for youths to develop strong life skills and excel in their chosen paths.

Commencing on March 3, 2024, the KPL saw enthusiastic participation by 175 cricket players across 25 Gram Panchayats in Rayagada district. The final match, which drew over 2000 spectators from across the region, saw an intense contest between the Khantikashipuriya and Smart 11 teams, with Khantikashipuriya emerging as the overall league champion. The winners were felicitated by Dr. Netrananda Nayak, Kashipur Community Health Centre Officer, in the presence of several village committee members and government officials.

The Vedanta Aluminium – Mines team extended crucial logistical and organizational assistance towards the successful execution of the event. The company has frequently supported the organizing of several grassroots sporting events, including hockey and football tournaments, in addition to distributing sporting kits among local youths. This latest effort comes as a reiteration of the company’s commitment towards nurturing sporting talent at the grassroots level, for nurturing the holistic development of youth in rural Odisha.

It is truly inspiring to witness them excel in their chosen sport and serve as a beacon of inspiration for others.”

It has provided me with a platform to demonstrate my passion for cricket and instilled a sense of purpose within me. I look forward to more of such tournaments in the future.”
