Jharsuguda, Odisha, 15th April 2026: Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest producer of aluminium, organized the 2nd All India Vedanta Open National Karate Championship in Jharsuguda through its Vedanta Martial Arts Training Centre. The championship brought together 280+ young athletes from seven states across India and served as a competitive platform to promote discipline, physical fitness and sporting talent among youth.

The event featured contests across Individual Kata, Kumite, Team Kata and Open Kumite categories, along with a women’s self-defense demonstration. Students from the Vedanta Martial Arts Training Centre secured multiple medals across categories during the championship. Their performance reflects the structured training and regular coaching being provided under the project.

Speaking on the occasion, C Chandru, CEO, Vedanta Jharsuguda, said, “Sports is an enabler of discipline, confidence and long-term development of youth. Through the Vedanta Martial Arts Training Centre at Jharsuguda, we are creating opportunities for young people to access structured training and competitive exposure. The 2nd All India Vedanta Open National Karate Championship reflects this commitment and reinforces our focus on supporting grassroots talent through sustained community initiatives.”

Sourav Das, a participant in the Championship, said, “The championship gave us an opportunity to compete at a national level and learn from a larger field of athletes. For many of us, platforms like this help improve confidence and boost our commitment to the sport.”

The company has been supporting sports development in the region through focused interventions that create accessible training for young participants. The Vedanta Martial Arts Training Centre has enabled students from nearby communities to receive regular martial arts training under guided instruction. Over time, students supported under the initiative have participated in district, state and national-level competitions, with several securing recognition across categories. Other martial arts platforms have also been supported in the region, including the Odisha State SQAY Martial Arts Championship.

Through such initiatives, Vedanta Aluminium continues to invest in community development in its operational vicinities by supporting structured opportunities in sports, education and youth engagement.
