VAML celebrates ‘Spirit of Shakti with Maa Durga’
22nd October 2026
Employees, families and the local communities come together to celebrate faith, culture and the spirit of togetherness
New Delhi; 20 October 2026: Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest producer of aluminium, celebrated Navratri and Durga Puja through a series of cultural and community engagement initiatives across BALCO, Jharsuguda, Lanjigada and Mines. Festivals have long served as a bridge between tradition and community, bringing people together through shared celebrations and cultural heritage. Reflecting this spirit, the festivities brought together employees, families and local communities through devotional ceremonies, cultural programmes and festive gatherings that celebrated India’s rich traditions while strengthening community bonds.
Speaking on the occasion, Rajesh Kumar, CEO, Vedanta Aluminium, said, “It was wonderful to see the VAML family come alive with such enthusiasm and participation during Navratri and Dussehra. The celebrations reflected the richness of our cultural traditions, from honouring the nine forms of Maa Durga, each symbolising different virtues and strengths, to commemorating Lord Ram’s triumph of righteousness and perseverance. What made these occasions truly special was their ability to bring employees, families and communities together, creating moments of connection, joy and shared celebration across our operations.”
Across Vedanta Aluminium’s operations, the celebrations blended tradition with community participation. At BALCO, Navratri transformed Balconagar into a vibrant hub of festivities as employees, families and residents came together for Garba celebrations, a public Durga Puja Pandal and a photo exhibition showcasing the spirit of the season. The celebrations created an atmosphere of festivity and cultural pride, welcoming participation from across the township and neighbouring communities.
The spirit of devotion was equally visible in Jharsuguda, where Durga Puja brought together employees and community members through a vibrant mix of religious observances and cultural programmes. Traditional ceremonies, including Mahasaptami, Mahashtami, Pushpanjali and Sandhya Aarti, marked the spiritual journey of the festival, while Garba, Dandiya, music performances, dance showcases and Maa Ka Jagrata added colour and energy to the celebrations. The festivities concluded with Vijayadashami observances, including Ramleela and Ravan Dahan, symbolising the triumph of good over evil.
At Lanjigada, the celebrations highlighted the enduring connection between faith, craftsmanship and sustainability. The Durga idol installed for the festivities was handcrafted in Varanasi by a third-generation artisan using sacred Ganga maati. Made entirely from natural materials, the eco-friendly idol reflected both the spiritual significance of the festival and a deep respect for sustainable practices.
The celebrations extended to Vedanta’s mining operations, where employees and their families gathered at SKS Towers, Raigarh, to mark Durga Puja with traditional rituals, a Dandiya Night and a family dinner. The occasion provided colleagues and their loved ones with an opportunity to come together outside the workplace, further strengthening the sense of camaraderie and belonging within the community.
Across locations, Navratri and Durga Puja brought people together through devotion, participation and shared experiences.
