  • Focused programs on hygiene education and early diabetes detection reinforce Vedanta’s commitment to healthier, informed communities

Jharsuguda, Odisha, November 20, 2025: Vedanta Aluminum, India’s largest producer of aluminum, reinforced its commitment to advancing public health by observing World Toilet Day (November 19) and World Diabetes Day (November 14) through dedicated outreach programs across multiple venues in Jharsuguda. These initiatives brought together school children, teachers, villagers and medical experts, focusing on the importance of hygiene, sanitization and early-stage disease detection as the key pillars of sustainable community wellbeing.

At Government UG High School, Purna, Vedanta organized interactive sessions for over 100 students and school staff. Demonstrations on proper toilet usage, handwashing techniques, and waste management, along with a student-driven cleanliness activity, helped instill practical, everyday behaviours necessary for a healthier learning environment.

Meanwhile, at Siriapali village, Vedanta’s Mobile Health Unit (MHU) observed World Diabetes Day through an awareness and screening camp that highlighted early detection and lifestyle-related risk factors. Health experts from the District Headquarters Hospital and Vedanta’s medical team guided villagers on symptoms, preventive care, and long-term disease management. Over 60 individuals underwent on-spot screenings. Among them, 15 individuals were identified with diabetes and were immediately provided with a month’s supply of essential medication.

The event was attended by Ms. Gitanjali Meher from the Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) Department of the District Headquarters Hospital, who served as the Chief Guest of the event. The session covered early symptoms, lifestyle-related risks, screening needs and long-term management of diabetes while also offering practical insights to the community. Ms. Puspanjali Seth, women entrepreneur and member, Subhalaxmi Cooperative, and Dr. Adwitiya Keshari Barik, member of Vedanta’s Mobile Health Unit (MHU) team, also addressed the gathering. Dr. Barik highlighted the diagnostic and treatment support provided through the MHU, encouraging villagers to adopt proactive health-seeking behavior.

Speaking on the initiative, Mr. C Chandru, CEO – Vedanta Jharsuguda, said, “Good health and hygiene are fundamental to the wellbeing of our communities. Through these programs, we aim to strengthen awareness, early detection and preventive care where it matters most. Vedanta remains committed to driving meaningful health outcomes in the region.”

Sharing her views on the school program, Ms. Ambika Naik, Headmistress – Government UG High School, Purna said, “Today’s session helped our students truly understand the importance of hygiene and clean toilet practices. The demonstrations made the learning practical and memorable for them. We appreciate Vedanta for bringing such impactful awareness to our school.”

These combined initiatives reflect Vedanta’s holistic approach to community development, where sanitation awareness, healthcare access and preventive screenings serve as vital enablers of healthier, informed societies.
