The event aimed to promote wider awareness of safe digital practices under the theme ‘Stop. Verify. Be Secure’. The initiative focuses on prevention-first awareness against online frauds and empowers citizens to protect themselves against the menace of cybercrimes.

The event witnessed the presence of several eminent guests from Odisha Police – Jharsuguda, including G.R. Raghvendra, IPS, Superintendent of Police; Madhusmita Mishra, Additional SP; James Samad, Additional SP; Jyotsnamayi Pradhan; DSP; Uma Shankar Singh, SDPO; and Rajendra Sial, DSP, Badmal, alongside employees of Vedanta and its business partners, and township residents. In a digital age where technology drives both opportunity and risk, the campaign highlighted the importance of informed vigilance. Through informative videos and interactive sessions, experts from Odisha Police explained how individuals can identify and avoid common online threats such as phishing, OTP/QR scams, remote access apps, deepfake manipulation, identity theft and financial malware. Attendees were also introduced to digital best practices for online transactions, secure password management and responsible social media behavior.

In addition, the participants were introduced to the ‘Cyber-Rath’ – a mobile awareness van that is being rolled out across Odisha to bring cyber security messaging directly into rural and semi-urban neighborhoods. The Cyber Rath is an on-wheels outreach unit of the government’s month-long awareness drive, set to travel district-to-district, engaging citizens through street plays, film screenings and interactive kiosks.

Speaking at the event, C Chandru, CEO, Vedanta Jharsuguda, said, “At Vedanta, safety extends beyond our plants and into our digital lives. As technology becomes an integral part of our work and community, we believe awareness and vigilance is the first line of defense in cyber security. Through our collaboration with the Odisha Police, we hope to empower our employees, families and the broader community to become conscious and cautious consumers of digital tools.”

Adding his views, GR Raghvendra IPS, Superintendent of Police, Jharsuguda said, “The rise in cybercrime cases is not just a law enforcement issue but a social challenge. Campaigns like this will help build a culture for ‘Stop. Verify. Be Secure’, a habit that can prevent most cyber offences before they occur. It is our endeavour to educate and enable people to act responsibly online.” In his address, he shared several simple steps that citizens could take to protect themselves against cybercrimes, while also highlighting the various platforms available to report and address incidents, while also commending Vedanta’s support in taking forward the initiative.
