New Delhi, 30th June, 2025: As India observes National Doctor’s Day, Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest producer of aluminium, salutes the unwavering dedication and compassion of its 105 doctors, along with their medical teams who are the lifelines of healthcare for more than five lakh people across Vedanta Aluminium’s hospitals and diagnostic centres in Odisha and Chhattisgarh. On this day dedicated to honouring the contributions of medical professionals, Vedanta reaffirms its commitment to building healthier communities through accessible, high-quality healthcare.
Behind every hospital, mobile health unit (MHU) and health camp is a team of 105 doctors, and 455 nurses and medical staff, whose tireless service has become a beacon of hope for some of India’s most remote and underserved communities. Their relentless efforts extend beyond curative care to preventive healthcare, awareness-building, and nurturing healthier futures. Through its flagship healthcare facilities including the BALCO Medical Centre (a 170-bed world-class oncology hospital in Naya Raipur, Chhattisgarh), diagnostic centres in Jharsuguda and Laikera – the largest in Western Odisha, the Vedanta Hospital and Mata Santoshi Jan Kalyan Hospital in Kalahandi, Odisha, and a fleet of (MHUs, Vedanta’s medical professionals have touched countless lives. To date, the teams have facilitated over 3.5 lakh OPD visits, treated more than 54,000 cancer patients, and conducted over 1,500 cataract surgeries, helping restore health, dignity, and hope to thousands.
- At the BALCO Medical Centre, the medical team has performed more than 10,000 surgeries and continues to deliver comprehensive, affordable cancer care to patients from across the region, offering hope where it matters the most.
- Vedanta’s healthcare ecosystem extends further, with diagnostic centres in Jharsuguda and Laikera serving 57,000+ patients, offering vital services like advanced radiology and pathology.
- In remote villages, MHUs – each staffed with a doctor, nurse, lab technician, and pharmacist – continue to bridge the gap in healthcare access. These units deliver free consultations, medicines, and diagnostic services directly to people’s doorsteps. The doctors also conduct regular awareness sessions on critical topics like hypertension, diabetes, maternal and child health, menstrual hygiene, and chronic disease prevention.
- Regular mega health camps, specialized eye camps, and assistive device distribution drives have become lifelines for thousands, while ongoing awareness programs on HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, cancer, nutrition, and de-addiction continue to make a significant community impact.
Speaking on the occasion, Rajiv Kumar, CEO of Vedanta Aluminium, said, “Our doctors, nurses, and medical staff are the true champions of community health. Their unwavering commitment and tireless service have brought quality healthcare within reach for lakhs of people who need it the most. On Doctor’s Day, we salute their spirit and reaffirm our resolve to support them in their mission to create healthier, more empowered communities.”
