Vedanta Aluminium Marks Menstrual Hygiene Day 2025 with Week-long Awareness and Outreach Program
30th May 2025Bhubaneswar, Odisha; 28th May 2025: On Menstrual Hygiene Day, Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest producer of aluminium, reaffirmed its commitment to women’s health through a week-long initiative aimed at raising awareness and promoting menstrual hygiene practices across its operations in Odisha.
Observed globally on May 28, Menstrual Hygiene Day is a clarion call to end the stigma surrounding menstruation and ensure equitable access to safe and affordable menstrual care for women and girls. Vedanta Aluminium’s campaign this year focused on empowering adolescent girls and women with accurate information, resources, and support to manage their menstrual and reproductive health with dignity.
The program, which reached over 350 women and adolescent girls, included a series of impactful activities. In Lanjigarh, home to Vedanta’s alumina refinery, the Red Dot Campaign was rolled out, encouraging open dialogue and challenging societal taboos associated with periods. In a bid to normalize conversations around menstruation, medical expert Dr. Nareen Ali led awareness sessions on menstrual health and hygiene practices, providing scientific insights and practical advice to participants. A comprehensive workshop was conducted for more than 100 women and adolescents, delving into aspects of sexual and reproductive health to equip them with knowledge for informed and safe decisions.
Furthering its commitment to basic hygiene, Vedanta Aluminium continued the regular distribution of sanitary kits, which include essential hygiene products such as sanitary pads, to support daily needs and promote consistent hygiene practices among women.
In addition, around the company’s Jamkhani, Kuraloi, and Ghogharpalli coal operations in Jharsuguda and Sundargarh districts, Vedanta Aluminium has planned a special outreach initiative to distribute heat bags and ‘Menstrupedia’ educational booklets in schools. These booklets, designed to educate both girls and boys about puberty and physical changes in a friendly and inclusive manner, aim to foster awareness from a young age and cultivate gender-sensitive understanding around menstrual health.
Speaking on the occasion, Sunil Gupta, Chief Operations Officer – Vedanta Aluminium, said: “Ensuring menstrual health and hygiene is a societal imperative. Through continued efforts like these, we aim to empower women and adolescents with the knowledge and means to manage their health with dignity, while encouraging communities to break the silence and stigma around menstruation.”

The company continues to champion grassroots health and hygiene programs across its areas of operation, in alignment with its ESG vision and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health & Well-being) and SDG 5 (Gender Equality).
