Vedanta Aluminium Sponsors Odisha’s First IMF-Sanctioned Trekking Expedition to Garhwal Himalayas

Bhubaneswar, Odisha; 15th April 2025 – Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest producer of aluminium, supported 26 students from Kalahandi in successfully completing the Nag Tibba expedition in the Garhwal Himalayas, marking Odisha’s first-ever trekking expedition sanctioned by the Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF).
Sponsored by Vedanta Aluminium, the expedition saw the young trekkers scale Nag Tibba, a 3,022m peak, known for its breathtaking vistas and moderate technical challenges. The trek tested the participants’ endurance, teamwork and resilience, culminating in a triumphant ascent.
The expedition was led by Everest summiteer and international mountaineer, Jogabyasa Bhoi, with expert guidance from senior mountaineering instructors, Romanchal Bhoi and Dhanpati Bag. Under their mentorship, the students not only completed the trek safely but also developed essential skills in mountaineering.
The team also met Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister of Education, who said, “Delighted to meet young mountaineers from Odisha along with Shri Jogabyasa Bhoi. It was a pleasure to interact with them and know more about their mountaineering expeditions as well as their passion for adventure sports. Their sense of purpose, dedication and grit was truly amazing.”

Speaking about his experience, Shri Ranju Ranu, one of the trekkers, said, “This expedition has not only tested our physical limits but also strengthened our bonds and deepened our respect for the Himalayan environment. This was a long-cherished dream of mine but due to financial constraints, I was unable to pursue it. We are thankful to Vedanta Aluminium for making this expedition possible.”
