Vedanta Aluminium Celebrates World Health Day with Health Initiatives for Community and Employees

Jharsuguda & Lanjigarh, Odisha; April 11, 2025: Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest producer of aluminium, marked World Health Day with multiple healthcare initiatives across its operations in Odisha, aligned to the global theme ‘Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures’. These initiatives reflect the company’s commitment to fostering holistic well-being for both its workforce and neighbouring communities.

At Jharsuguda, where Vedanta’s mega aluminium smelter is located, a health awareness programme was organized in collaboration with the District Health Department in Sunarimunda village, drawing participation from over 130 villagers. The event was graced by Dr. Dolamani Patel, Head of the Non-Communicable Diseases Department, Jharsuguda, who highlighted the significance of preventive healthcare. Other key participants included Dr. Jayanarayan Pujari, MHU doctor; Mrs. Suruchi Padhi, Anganwadi worker, Sunarimunda; and Ms. Gitanjali Bishi, Headmistress, Upper Primary School, Sunarimunda. Local healthcare workers, school authorities, and Vedanta employees led interactive sessions promoting healthy living practices. A voluntary blood donation camp at the plant premises also saw enthusiastic participation, with over 150 units of blood collected.

At Lanjigarh, home to Vedanta’s alumina refinery, a multispecialty mega health camp was organized, offering free medical consultations and checkups to over 400 community members. The initiative is part of Project Aarogya, the flagship healthcare programme at Lanjigarh, which has provided accessible and quality healthcare to over 120,000 beneficiaries in FY25.The project delivers end-to-end healthcare support through mobile health units, hospital outreach, surgical interventions, and nutrition programmes, addressing both curative and preventive needs.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Sunil Gupta, Chief Operating Officer, Vedanta Aluminium, said, “At Vedanta Aluminium, we recognize that good health is not just an individual necessity but a collective responsibility that strengthens the fabric of society. Through comprehensive community outreach and employee wellness programmes, we are dedicated to fostering a culture of well-being that touches every household around our operations.”

The weeklong program in both these locations engaged employees and their families with a series of activities, including drawing and quiz competitions, debates, skits, safety demonstrations, first aid contests, and healthy food contests. These initiatives were aimed at raising awareness on personal and occupational health, nutrition, and emergency preparedness, reinforcing the company’s commitment to holistic well-being and community health.

To date, Vedanta’s social interventions have reached nearly 80 villages in Jharsuguda and nearby areas, as well as 67 villages around Lanjigarh, benefiting over 4.5 lakh people annually in Odisha. Initiatives span various domains, including education, healthcare, livelihood, skill development, women and child development, grassroots sports, and art & culture.
