  • From serving the devotees during Odisha’s biggest annual festival in Puri to organising celebrations in its townships in Odisha, Vedanta Aluminium celebrated the Ratha Yatra with great fervour

Bhubaneswar, Odisha, 17th July 2024 – Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest aluminium producer, served devotees at the annual Ratha Yatra celebrations in Puri, providing them with free meals, Maha Prasad and clean drinking water during the 9 day-long event. Every year millions of devotees from India and across the world converge to participate in the celebrations, as the three sibling deities, Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra are taken out in a grand procession to their maternal aunt’s house. Vedanta Aluminium has been an integral part of this holy event each year.

Popularly known as the socio-cultural epicenter of Odisha, the Lord Jagannath Temple in Puri is beautifully adorned during the Ratha Yatra event. As devotees congregated in Puri, Vedanta Aluminium highlighted Odisha’s rich cultural legacy by organizing a Bhajan Sandhya and a cultural program, while showcasing indigenous art forms such as Dhokra and Saura art from the Kalahandi district. Vedanta Aluminium has played a pivotal role in reviving these art forms in the region. Additionally, this initiative was among the select projects presented at the Pallishree Mela in Puri, organized by Odisha Rural Development and Marketing Society (ORMAS).

Concurrently, the company celebrated Ratha Yatra at its townships in Jharsuguda and Lanjigarh in Odisha, as well as in Korba, Chhattisgarh, with enthusiastic participation from employees, business partners, and their families. The Lord Jagannath Temple within Vedanta’s Jharsuguda premises, spanning a vast 19,500 square feet, saw a huge footfall of devotees from the region. Additionally, the recently inaugurated Lord Jagannath Temple in Kalahandi hosted a Prasad Sevan ceremony for the residents of Kalahandi district on the eve of Bahuda Yatra, marking the return of the deities to the main temple.

Speaking on the occasion, Sunil Gupta, COO – Vedanta Aluminium, said, “Vedanta Aluminium has proudly participated in the annual Ratha Yatra celebrations in Puri for many years. It is our humble privilege to serve the millions of devotees who journey to Puri each year to witness this divine procession, a cornerstone of Odisha’s rich cultural heritage.
