Vedanta Jharsuguda scripts a big win at the Greentech Awards 2020

Jharsuguda, Odisha; 18 February 2021: Vedanta Jharsuguda, India’s largest producer of aluminium and value-added products, won three first prizes at the prestigious Greentech Awards 2020, for exemplary efforts in safety, sustainability and Covid-19 initiatives. Instituted by the Greentech Foundation, Greentech Awards witnessed participation across various critical industry sectors.

The company won three awards –

  • 19 Annual Greentech Safety Award 2020 for outstanding achievements in ‘Industry Sector Safety Excellence’
  • 20 Annual Greentech Sustainability Award 2020 for outstanding achievements in ‘Good Health and Well Being’ and
  • Greentech Corona Warrior Award 2020 for outstanding achievements in ‘Corona Protection Initiatives’.

These awards were presented during the Greentech’s safety, sustainability and corona warrior summits, respectively, held recently at Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu.

Vedanta has integrated best-in-class technology and environmental safeguards to create sustainability-focused operations based on the three primary pillars of economic, environmental and social impact. It has instituted the Vedanta Sustainability Assurance Programme (VSAP), a robust governance system following International Finance Corporation (IFC) & International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM) guidelines that guide their operations and measures performance across 34 elements under the broader dimensions of Sustainability, like Leadership, Process Safety & Management of Change, Continuous Improvement, Social Sustainability, Resource Use Management, Health, Safety, Environment (HSE) Management etc.

Besides bolstering its safety practices and sustainability standards, Vedanta has also lent critical support to the region during the Covid-19 pandemic. The company has supported the district COVID hospital with critical medical equipment, PPEs and other essential supplies catering to 5 lakh people of the region. It also conducted various awareness sessions on Covid-19 across remote villages, helped daily wagers and under-served families with rations and meals, fumigated and disinfected public places, and distributed Covid-19 safety kits to the needy.
