Vedanta Aluminium Deploys Heat Relief Efforts Across Jharsuguda
23rd April 2026
- Over 2 lakh people to benefit from easier access to drinking water during the summer months
Jharsuguda, Odisha; 23rd April 2026: Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest producer of aluminium, has deployed multi-pronged heat relief efforts in Jharsuguda, one of the districts currently experiencing severe heat stress amid ongoing heat wave conditions in western Odisha, to mitigate health risks and facilitate easier access to drinking water during the peak summer months. Aimed at supporting both employees and community members, the initiatives are set to benefit more than 2 lakh people.
As part of these efforts, the company has established 6 water kiosks, locally known as Jalachhatras, in high footfall locations across Jharsuguda, including BTM Chowk, Kishan Chowk, New Bus Stand Chowk, Badheimunda Chowk, Jharsuguda Railway Station Chowk and Old Bus Stand Chowk. Strategically positioned to serve residents, commuters and daily wage workers, these kiosks offer vital respite from extreme summer heat. Additionally, drinking water supply has been strengthened through tankers and dedicated distribution points at over 20 locations in surrounding villages, ensuring consistent access to safe and potable water even in the most remote habitations.
Highlighting the significance of the initiative, C Chandru, CEO – Vedanta Jharsuguda, said “The health and wellbeing of our employees and the communities around us remain a top priority. As temperatures rise, ensuring access to safe drinking water becomes imperative. Through last-mile interventions such as water kiosks and doorstep supply via tankers, we will continue to support people in tackling challenges associated with summer heat.”
Complementing these community centric measures, over 60 hydration kiosks have been installed at multiple locations within the company’s plant premises to support more than 12,000 employees, business partners and drivers. The kiosks also provide Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) and buttermilk to help prevent dehydration and reduce the risk of heat related illnesses.
Acknowledging the company’s efforts, Manish Mishra, Senior Manager – Projects, Lizmontagens India Pvt. Ltd., said, “Working outdoors can be a challenge during the summer months, but the hydration kiosks setup within the plant, offering easy and timely access to water, ORS, and buttermilk, have been a great support.”
Sharing the community perspective, Mahindra Rohidas, a resident of Burkhamunda village, said, “The onset of summer has been extremely harsh, but the timely support provided through water tankers and kiosks have been a huge relief for us. Having access to drinking water close to home has made it much easier for our families, especially children and the elderly, to cope with the heat.”
Together, these efforts reflect Vedanta Aluminium’s continuous commitment to ensuring employee and community well-being. By strengthening access to safe drinking water and advancing climate-responsive interventions across its operations, the company continues to integrate social responsibility with operational excellence, reinforcing its focus on sustainable and inclusive growth.
