Bhubaneswar, 25th March 2026: As India observes International Women’s Month 2026, Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest producer of aluminium, has concluded a month-long series of community engagement and women-centric initiatives across its operational areas in Odisha. The activities ranged from health and safety awareness sessions to cultural programmes and leadership recognitions, collectively reaching over 6,000 women, adolescent girls and community members.

Some key initiatives across Vedanta Aluminium’s women outreach as part of the celebrations include:

  • Lanjigarh (Odisha): Over 1,000 SHG women from nine gram panchayats participated in enterprise planning sessions with the District Industries Centre, leadership recognition for frontline health workers, cultural programmes, and storytelling sensitisation on the theme “Give to Gain.”
  • Jharsuguda (Odisha): A weeklong celebration with the Subhalaxmi Cooperative brought together more than 2,000 women across five gram panchayats for interactive learning events, traditional games, community bonding activities, and recognition ceremonies with local leaders.
  • Mines (Odisha): Across Kuraloi, Jamkhani and Ghogharpalli, over 3,000 community members engaged in participatory games, hygiene awareness activities, distribution of everyday essentials, and felicitation of frontline health workers.

Commenting on the month-long engagement, Rajiv Kumar, CEO, Vedanta Aluminium said, “When women thrive, entire industries, communities and economies thrive with them. Their progress reflects a larger transformation underway in India, where women are increasingly shaping livelihoods, strengthening local value chains and stepping into roles of leadership across sectors. Vedanta Aluminium remains deeply committed to enabling this momentum by creating ecosystems that support women’s growth both in our workplaces and in the communities we serve.”

As an equal opportunity employer, Vedanta Aluminium strives to drive meaningful change and propel women’s empowerment, both in the workplace and beyond. This integrated approach ensures that women are supported across the full spectrum of livelihood opportunities, from community leadership to technical, operational and supervisory roles.

Aligned with this year’s theme, “Give to Gain,” Vedanta Aluminium continues to strengthen its women-first agenda through a range of progressive initiatives. The company has been building a strong ecosystem for women to thrive both at work and in the community. The company has steadily advanced women into roles that were once considered nontraditional, through initiatives such as nightshift enablement under the Shree Shakti programme, the Agnivahini all-women firefighting squad, the women-run Digital Command Centre at Lanjigarh, women-operated potlines and loco teams in Jharsuguda, and women crane operators and technicians at BALCO. Women today make up 21% of the company’s workforce and aims to increase this to 35% in the near future, aligning with national efforts to strengthen gender inclusion across industries.
