Vedanta Aluminium Supports Inter-State U-17 Girls’ 5-A-Side Hockey Tournament in Jharsuguda
19th April 2025Jharsuguda, Odisha; 17th April 2025: Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest producer of aluminium, is supporting the Inter-State Girls’ five-a-side hockey tournament in the under-17 category, organised in collaboration with the Jharsuguda District Hockey Association. The tournament is being held at the Hockey Stadium in H. Katapali, Jharsuguda, from April 18 to 20, 2025.
The tournament in Jharsuguda features nine teams from Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha. Each team comprises eight players, one coach, and one team manager. Matches will follow a league format, with preliminary rounds scheduled for April 18 between 6:00 AM and 8:00 AM, followed by the formal inauguration at 5:00 PM. The closing ceremony will take place at 7:00 PM on April 20, 2025.
The event is being coordinated by Ms. Aboli Sunil Naravane, Collector and District Magistrate of Jharsuguda and President of the District Hockey Association, and Mr. Braja Bandhu Bhoi, Additional District Collector and Secretary of the Association, and supported by Vedanta Aluminium. Regular reviews are being conducted to ensure the smooth execution of the event.
Ten officials appointed by the Odisha Hockey Association will oversee the tournament. Senior association members, including Mr. Sanatan Sahu, Secretary; Mr. P.K. Mohanty, Treasurer; Mr. Ranjan Das, Senior Member; Mr. Kalu Charan Choudhury, OSD Sports and Smt. Subhadra Pradhan, former captain of the Indian women’s hockey team and currently Chief Selector, will also be present throughout the event.
Mr. Jeevan Mohanty, Vice-President, Odisha Hockey Association, announced that Padma Shri Dr. Dilip Kumar Tirkey, President of Hockey India, will serve as Chief Advisor for the tournament.
