Vedanta Aluminium Inaugurates State-of-the-Art Driver Welfare Complex at Jharsuguda

Jharsuguda, Odisha, July 15, 2025: Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest producer of aluminium, has inaugurated a state-of-the-art driver welfare complex within its operations in Jharsuguda. Encompassing new training, resting and hygiene facilities, it reflects the company’s focus on operational excellence, safety, and well-being of its numerous logistics partners, who support seamless operations at one of the largest aluminium plants in the world.

The newly-developed complex is a thoughtfully designed space that aims to enhance the comfort and overall working environment for drivers. It features a dedicated driver management centre, which will host regular training and skill-augmentation sessions for drivers. The facility also includes rest areas that can accommodate up to 80 drivers during extended waiting hours, along with a canteen that serves up to 42 individuals at a time. Clean drinking water stations and a newly-constructed washroom facility at the main truck parking area also ensure access to essential hygiene and sanitation services.

Sharing his views, Sunil Gupta, Chief Executive Officer – Vedanta Jharsuguda and Chief Operating Officer – Vedanta Aluminium, said,“Our operations feature an extensive, multi-modal logistics network that is critical for sourcing essential materials and for dispatching our world-class products to different parts of India and the world. Our drivers are an integral part of this system and play an important role in enabling the smooth functioning of our operations. This facility has been developed to provide them with a clean, safe and respectful environment that supports their comfort and well-being.”

Sharing his thoughts on the new facility, Balram Sahu, a driver associated with Vedanta Aluminium, said, “Vedanta has always taken care of our needs and has built an environment that enables us to deliver our best efforts. This new facility is comfortable and well-designed and is set to makes our workdays easier. We appreciate and welcome these new facilities.”

This initiative is part of a broader set of measures by Vedanta Aluminium aimed at strengthening road safety and supporting the logistics ecosystem. In August 2024, the company commissioned an advanced LMV and HMV Simulation Training Centre to help drivers enhance their skills through digital learning. The same month, a Driver Management Centre was launched within its operations, which currently supports nearly 400 drivers daily. As part of Road Safety Awareness Month in February 2025, Vedanta reached over 12,000 individuals through a range of safety campaigns, health camps, and training sessions conducted in collaboration with local authorities and transport associations.
