Vedanta Aluminium Fosters Festive Bonds Through Community Celebrations during Diwali
22nd October 2025
Jharsuguda, Odisha, 22nd October 2025: Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest producer of aluminium, brought festive cheer to the community this Diwali through a heartwarming celebration that united employees, women entrepreneurs and children through its developmental initiatives in Jharsuguda. As part of celebrations around the festive season, Vedanta Aluminium organized Diya Painting Workshops in collaboration with the members of Subhalaxmi Cooperative and the young students of Nand Ghar, underscoring its commitment to fostering strong community bonds.
Subhalaxmi Cooperative is one of Odisha’s largest Self Help Group (SHG) cooperatives today with over 5000 members, providing rural women with opportunities for building sustainable livelihoods by supporting aspiring women entrepreneurs with micro-finance, skill development, financial literacy and market linkages. Vedanta Nand Ghar is the company’s flagship community development program, focused on creating modernized anganwadis as hubs of women and child development. Over 175 Nand Ghars are already in operation across Jharsuguda, with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the District Administration to create 500 more.
The diyas used in the workshop were handcrafted by terracotta artisans under Vedanta’s livelihood initiative, VedMurtika. These lamps were then artistically painted and decorated by Vedanta employee volunteers, women from Subhalaxmi Cooperative and children from Vedanta Nand Ghar. Over 30 employee volunteers joined hands with the community members to paint more than 200 diyas. The initiative beautifully symbolized Vedanta Aluminium’s belief in lighting lives within and beyond the organization.
C Chandru, CEO, Vedanta Jharsuguda, said, “At Vedanta Aluminium, our people are at the center of everything we do. This Diwali, our employees went beyond the workplace to share joy with the community, making it a celebration that truly lit up lives. We are deeply committed to fostering holistic development in the region, and initiatives like these reaffirm our belief that when we come together as one community, we can create meaningful impact.”
“VedMurtika has given us not just a livelihood, but recognition as well. Earlier, our art stayed within our village but today, more people are appreciating what we create. Seeing employees join us to paint diyas made us feel truly connected, like our craft is helping light up many more homes.” said Malti Rana, Terracotta Artisan, VedMurtika Program, Jharsuguda.
Beyond industrial excellence, Vedanta’s mega aluminium plant in Jharsuguda aims to foster an enriching work-life experience for its employees. The company’s residential township, Vedanta Meadows, features well-designed homes, green spaces, gymnasiums, multi-sport arenas, children’s play zones, healthcare centers and community halls. At Vedanta Jharsuguda, festivals are celebrated not just as occasions, but as shared experiences that bring people together. From Rath Yatra and Durga Puja to Onam and Diwali, the township and plant premises regularly come alive with decorations, traditional performances, music and community feasts. These celebrations foster inclusion and belonging, allowing employees, their families and residents to celebrate diverse traditions with one spirit of unity and togetherness. With regular community gatherings, cultural evenings and wellness initiatives, the company aims to create a fulfilling environment for employees and their families, boosting their well-being.
