Vedanta Aluminium Enhances Community and Employee Well-being Amid Summer Heat in Jharsuguda
2nd May 2025- The company is ensuring easier hydration access for community members during the heatwave
Jharsuguda, Odisha, 02nd May 2025: Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest producer of aluminium, has implemented several measures to ensure easier drinking water access for local communities and safeguard the wellbeing of its workforce at its Jharsuguda operations. This comes in response to the extreme temperatures in the region during the ongoing summer season.
Prolonged exposure to high heat and humidity can have adverse effects on the human body, leading to conditions such as severe exhaustion and body cramps. To address the crucial need for sufficient hydration during heatwave conditions, the company has set up multiple water kiosks in high-footfall public areas within the nearby villages. These kiosks will help ensure uninterrupted access to clean, safe drinking water – offering much-needed relief to residents in battling extreme summer conditions.
Within its plant operations, Vedanta has also rolled out a comprehensive ‘Summer Well-being Programme’ to support employees and business partners working in high-temperature environments. The initiative includes the installation of ORS (Oral Rehydration Solution) stations that help recharge the body’s electrolytes and chilled water dispensers across several critical work zones, helping employees and business partners maintain their hydration levels and preventing heat-related discomfort.
Reiterating the importance of this initiative, Sunil Gupta, Chief Operating Officer, Vedanta Aluminium “At Vedanta, we are deeply committed to the well-being of the communities around us and also of our team members, and are continuously looking for new avenues to address their needs. The water kiosks are an essential initiative to ensure that our community members have access to clean drinking water for adequate relief during the summer season. It is a direct reflection of our core aim, which is to positively impact the lives of those we serve.”
Acknowledging the company’s efforts towards employees and community members, Sanjeet Mohapatra of Shree Krishna Enterprises – a business partner engaged with the company, said, “This summer has been unbearably hot, but the water kiosks set up by Vedanta has been a lifesaver. It is especially important for our elderly and children to stay hydrated during this period, and we are incredibly grateful for this support during such a difficult time.”
These efforts highlight Vedanta Aluminium’s commitment to integrating sustainable actions with operational excellence. By maintaining a continuous focus on the health, safety, and well-being of its workforce and surrounding communities, Vedanta remains dedicated to its long-term goal of creating shared value through responsible business practices.
