Vedanta Aluminium Charts Path to Join the Global 1 Million Tonne Billet Producers’ Club
10th September 2025New Delhi, 10th September, 2025: Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest aluminium producer, today announced its roadmap to emerge as one of the world’s leading billet producers and join the elite 1 million tonne club. With plans to expand billet capacity to 1.25 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) and commanding more than half of India’s domestic billet market, the company is advancing its portfolio to meet surging demand from high-growth industries such as electric vehicles, solar energy, railways, building and construction, aerospace, and defence.
As India’s billet leader, Vedanta Aluminium operates a state-of-the-art 1.8 MTPA smelter at Jharsuguda, Odisha, and a 0.57 MTPA capacity smelter at its iconic BALCO plant in Korba, Chhattisgarh. For billets specifically, the company has a current casting capacity of 580 KTPA and is actively expanding capacity by an additional 670 KTPA, which will take the total billets capacity to 1.25 MTPA upon completion. Today, Vedanta Aluminium ranks 1st in India and 3rd globally in billet production. Billets, a critical semi-finished product for extrusion, are enabling a wide spectrum of industries, from automobiles and building to sunrise sectors such as EVs and solar.
