New Delhi, September 15, 2025: Vedanta Aluminium, India’s largest aluminium producer, commemorates Engineers’ Day by celebrating the contributions of its ~2,000 engineers, who are shaping the future of India’s metals and minerals industry. With an average age of just 29-30 years, this dynamic workforce blends youthful energy with deep technical expertise to drive innovation, efficiency, safety, and sustainability across Vedanta’s operations. Spread across key locations such as Jharsuguda and Lanjigarh in Odisha, and Korba in Chhattisgarh, these engineers represent both geographic and cultural diversity.

Building on this spirit of innovation and inclusion, Vedanta Aluminium has also achieved a historic milestone at its Jharsuguda facility – the launch of India’s first-ever potline operated entirely by women. This bold initiative marks a transformative step in industrial manufacturing, championing gender parity and diversity on the shop floor. In line with Vedanta’s strategic vision to achieve 30% female representation across its workforce by FY 2030, the company has transitioned an entire smelter line to be managed and operated exclusively by women engineers and technicians.

This milestone is part of a larger journey of inclusive manufacturing at Vedanta Aluminium, which is shaped by many inspiring stories. One such story is that of Suprita Nanda, who in 2006 became the first woman engineer at Vedanta Jharsuguda. Over nearly two decades, she has worked on greenfield projects, quality and contract management, and infrastructure development, and today leads a ₹1,000 crore project portfolio. At Vedanta Aluminium women today hold leadership positions across potline operations, commercial, logistics, corporate communications, and CSR, reflecting a steadily growing presence in mission-critical functions.

Speaking on the occasion, Rajiv Kumar, CEO of Vedanta Aluminium, said “Our engineers are the driving force behind our manufacturing excellence. From pioneering digital transformation in aluminium manufacturing to embedding sustainability into every process, their contributions go far beyond the factory floor. The commissioning of India’s first women-led potline at Jharsuguda is a proud milestone that reflects our commitment to building inclusive and future-ready workplaces. We remain focused on empowering talent, fostering diversity, and shaping the future of global aluminium manufacturing.”

The company also invests deeply in nurturing the next generation of engineering talent. Graduate Engineer Trainee (GET) programmes bring fresh graduates into hands-on operations, while continuous upskilling and reskilling initiatives keep engineers ahead of evolving technologies. Collaborations with academia and R&D institutions are enabling breakthroughs in areas such as converting industrial waste into high-purity battery-grade graphite and deploying digital twin models to simulate plant operations.

Given the scale and complexity of Vedanta Aluminium’s operations, the company employs a diverse pool of engineering talent – including chemical, computer, civil, electrical, mining, thermal and mechanical engineers. This multidisciplinary expertise plays a pivotal role in driving innovation, operational excellence, and sustainable growth across its value chain.

Much of Vedanta Aluminium’s emergence as India’s largest aluminium producer can be attributed to this skilled workforce, who are at the forefront of product development, process optimisation, and cutting-edge research within the domestic aluminium industry. Their contributions continue to shape the company’s leadership in technology, sustainability, and global competitiveness.
